About the Event
Brunello di Montalcino is a wine made with 100% Sangiovese with Italy’s highest DOCG classification. This is the Sangiovese that most wine critics cite to be the best in all of Italy.
Whether or not it is the best is entirely up to you, but it’s one of those wines to know and perhaps try… at least once in your life.
During this class we will be joined by export manager Lorenzo Gucci who represents the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino maker Altesino. Located in the elegant 14th century Palazzo Altesi on a beautiful estate stretching out over 80 hectares, Altesino is a property with tradition and history, the management has embraced an innovative and brave business approach, looking towards the future. They spearheaded the introduction of the Cru – single high-quality vineyard- in the Montalcino region (Montosoli) in 1975; they promoted the concept of “futures” (“vente en primeur”, as it is known in France) of Brunello di Montalcino and much more.
Along with Brunello we will try examples of Rosso di Montalcino from Altesino. If you’re just starting to explore Sangiovese wines in general, you might not be ready to dive into what’s considered the “creme de la creme” of Tuscan Sangiovese. Rosso di Montalcino is basically a declassified Brunello di Montalcino that has lower aging requirements. However, if you seek out older vintages you will find a similar delightful effect.
During this class, we will compare
- Brunello vs Single Vineyard Brunello
- Rosso IGT vs Rosso di Montaclino
- No discussion or tasting of Tuscan wines would be complete without at taste of Vin Santo.
$30 per person includes your class, light cheese, and crackers to accompany the tasting and $15 gift certificate to purchase wines after the class.
Must respond by May10th. If class sells out please call us at the store to be out on the call list.
This is a wine appreciation class to further educate your palate by tasting a variety of wines in a professional manner.
